Supplier Information

After much trialling and experimentation, we have decided to source our products mostly from SESI and Miniml. Not only do they supply products that have been developed in an ethical, sustainable and environmentally friendly way, they have the capacity to deliver the products in 20L refill barrels and also collect the empty containers to be reused and kept in circulation. The products have been tested thoroughly and R3-Fill is confident that they are effective and competitively priced too.

SESI has collaborated with a Welsh company called Cole & Co, and are now able to offer an even greater selection of personal care products.

R3-Fill also stocks a small range of refills from bioD and other eco-friendly items from the likes of Save Some Green, Eco-Living, Plastic Phobia, CastleHouse Homemade Soaps, BizzybeeCraft4U, Pure Joy Skincare and Flawless Vegan Beauty. We will start stocking some of Elsie Moss's luxury soaps early in 2022. We will only sell what we would use ourselves.

SESI

Their story

We are a social enterprise based in Oxfordshire which supplies sustainable detergents to shops, farmers markets, cooperatives and charity organisations. SESI Refill helps reduce people’s plastic footprint. With the surge of Zero Waste Shops and other established retailers changing to become unpackaged shops, SESI has a key role as a provider of ethical detergents which help everyone to become part of a circular economy.

Since becoming established in 2006, we, with the help of our partners and customers have refilled more than 100,000 plastic bottles. We have been lucky enough to be a valued alternative to those seeking to reduce food waste and cut their plastic footprint. As a social enterprise, we re-inject funds into broadening our product list and branching out to create new partnerships and Refill Stations. Our focus is not profit, it’s to do good.

We’re proud to have developed a range of household detergents that are:

  • Vegan
  • Biodegradable
  • Cruelty Free
  • Manufactured for SESI by an independent family firm in the UK

The barrels and tubs used for distribution are all returned and refilled, which ensures a zero packaging waste supply chain from factory to householder.

We go to great lengths to ensure our products whilst eco-friendly, also are:

• Affordable
• Easy to refill
• Use fragrances which can be sourced as local as possible (UK and Europe)
• Opt out from exotic essential oils imported from far out
• Reduce carbon footprint where possible.

SESI products do not contain:

Parabens, Chlorine Bleaches, Optical Brightener, Thiazolinones, Sulphites, Methylisothiazolinone (CMIT), Gluten, Alcohol, SLS, ALS, ALES, Formaldehyde, Quanternium or Phosphates.

Enzymes

There are vegan enzymes in our Biological Laundry Liquid; none of the other SESI products contain enzymes.

Septic tanks

SESI Refill do not contain harmful ingredients like bleach, phosphates or nonylphenol ethoxylate, so our products are safe to use with septic tanks and normal waste systems. Thanks to our formulas being biodegradable, there is no harmful impact in the environment from normal usage.

Why SESI products are not anti-bacterial

A household detergent is required to kill at least 99.999% of bacteria in order to be anti-bacterial. Even at a reduction rate of 99.9%, the level of surviving bacteria is 100 times greater than an EN1276 standard would allow.

Watch out for claims such as “have been tested to EN 1276” as this is not a confirmation that the test has been passed.

SESI products are not made with biocidal function in mind. An antibacterial product is designed to kill *all* bacteria, including good bacteria which naturally occurs on our hands and skin, those organisms which work in harmony with our immune system. Heavy zero bacteria products turn our surroundings sterile and finally pollute our ecosystems too. There is a need for 99.999% or even zero bacteria tolerance products for hospitals and the like, for example, but we do not produce, supply and refill such products, and especially not for household use. SESI aims to produce, supply and refill cleaning products that do no harm.

On palm oil and coconut oil

SESI products use a coconut blend with 1% or less of RSPO certified (sustainably sourced) palm oil. Please visit FAQ to see our table on percentages and find out more about our stand on Palm Oil.

Future sustainable crops

We are asking our supporting communities to come on this journey with us and together get good research done, promote real farming and fair trade to become the main source of supplies for products the majorities can in future, afford to refill. Until we find a way of making locally and sustainably grown crops for oil, we do have a massive dilemma. The questions we ask ourselves at SESI are:

  • Coconut mono-crops fast destroying precious Mangroves
  • Chemicals from this mono-crop washing straight onto the Oceans
  • Child labour involved in the picking
  • Monkeys involved in the picking
  • Is the coconut oil fairtrade? Chances are very slim
  • Erosion in coastal areas where coconut is grown
  • Coastal habitants becoming more exposed to dangers of flooding and tsunamis
  • Dirty cheap Coconut Oil ~ how does it justify that you pay more for products containing this ingredient?

If we are to make refilling part of our mainstream culture, we need to source ingredients that are ethically sourced, fairly priced and yet still affordable to the majorities.

Cole & Co

Their story

We're a family business that first started out with a ‘lifestyle’ shop selling clothes, gifts and greetings cards in Beaumaris, Anglesey in 2000. In 2010 we started to create a range of delicious soaps and candles from our kitchen table. The success of these original, fragrant products have led us to become a recognised and luxury Welsh brand – supplying many beautiful independent shops and boutique hotels & holiday homes throughout Wales.

Product Information

Fragrance
As many of our products as possible contain 100% essential oils. Where an essential oil doesn't exist, we use a high quality cosmetic grade fragrance oil to scent the product. For a full listing of the essential oils and fragrance oils used and the allergens in those oils, please see the information below.

N.B Neroli Light Oil refers to Neroli Essential Oil diluted in jojoba carrier oil.

Soap Bases
We only use two SLS-free melt and pour bases - clear and white.

Salt
In our kitchen soaps and our range of herbal soaps, we use 100% pure Halen Môn Sea Salt that has been purified on Anglesey. Famous as a culinary salt, we use it as an extra purifier in these soaps. We also use it in our herbal range of hand washes.

Colouring
We use colourings only for our clear glycerine soaps (Rose Geranium, Neroli, Bergamot, Lavender & Lan Y Môr). These colourings have been especially selected for soap making and are aqueous.

Candle Wax
We use 100% soy wax. This has a lower burn temperature than a lot of other waxes - which means that our candles burn for longer, give an even burn and don't create soot in the flame.

The soy wax is a sustainable product.

Not tested on animals
We strictly don't test our products on animals, we have a queue of willing volunteers for that job!

Compliance
All manufacture is according to EU guidelines and GMP. This includes registration on the CPNP.

Pure Joy Skincare

Pure Joy Skincare was created by its founder, Donna, when she became focused on moving away from products that contained unnecessary chemicals, found in all aspects of our lives. After experiences of family and friends struggling with cancer and other diseases, Donna spent around 5 years researching natural ingredients; the seed was sown, and she decided to create her own range of affordable, high quality natural skincare.

The Pure Joy Skincare brand was born, offering its clients an eco-conscious, affordable and 100% vegan skincare range; using high quality plant ingredients for all skin types, for your daily skincare routine.

100% Vegan & Cruelty Free
All of the products use the finest natural ingredients of plant oils, waxes, vegetable glycerine and floral waters, blended to create high quality skin creams. Many of the oils are organic. Palm Oil is never used because of the environmental destruction caused by its production. All of the products are dermatologically tested on people, not animals. Pure Joy Skincare is approved and registered with the EU CPNP.

Eco-Conscious
Pure Joy Skincare products are manufactured in the UK to cut down on their carbon footprint. They use recyclable plastic with recyclable labels, with no extra boxes and compostable materials in the delivery packaging for their direct customer sales. To reduce single plastic use, Pure Joy Skincare prefers to reuse and refill containers and they pledge to regularly assess their practices, to ensure that they can continually improve their green credentials. Pure Joy Skincare is keen to support zero waste businesses, by accepting return of the empty large refill containers from stockists, for them to be reused.

Affordable High Quality
Pure Joy Skincare is keen to give you the opportunity to use high quality, natural and vegan skincare products for your daily skincare routine, at affordable prices. To help maintain the high quality and affordability, minimal and recyclable packaging is used. They believe in transparency too. While some producers may claim products contain 100% natural ingredients, on closer examination this is not always the case. Pure Joy Skincare is proud to share that their products consist of at least 99% high grade natural ingredients and contain a gentle synthetic preservative, under 1% of the total volume.

Pure Joy Skincare has a range of products suited for 4 skin types and R3-Fill has carefully selected from all four ranges, to give its customers as much choice as possible. Whether you are after a brighter complexion, want to banish those blemishes or just want to reduce the appearance of ageing through hydration, there will be an option for you. At the same time, through R3-Fill's refill skincare scheme, you will be minimising your impact on the environment through using natural products and by reducing waste.

For more information on the company, visit www.purejoyskincare.co.uk

There are other fantastic manufacturers that supply refillable eco-friendly personal care and household products. R3-Fill will also be offering Miniml, Faith In Nature and bioD products, should we choose to expand our range or if our usual products are low in stock. These products have also been stringently tested. We will only sell what we would use ourselves.
